Hold Onto Your Butts

We all know smoking is hazardous to our health. While cigarette butts may seem small, they are a major problem at our local beaches, in the ocean, and throughout watersheds as well.  Chemicals from one filtered cigarette butt could kill fish living in a 1-liter bucket of water. Walk or stroll Ali’i Drive on any given day and you’ll see hundreds, if not thousands, of butts!  As we all know, many of these will end up in the ocean we love!  You may see Surfrider members picking up butts along the road and wonder why.   The following links may help you better understand the impact!
